Rhinoplasty Surgery Abroad - Nose Job Abroad

Rhinoplasty is fast becoming one of the most popular surgeries on both sides of the Atlantic.  Our noses are probably the most prominent feature on our faces (indeed some people believe theirs to be too prominent) and thus we can be very self conscious about them. Rhinoplasty involves the breaking and re-setting of the nose into a more aesthetically pleasing position or shape.

The cost of rhinoplasty varies according to the patient and the extent of reshaping and re-positioning which is needed. For what may seem like a relatively minor procedure (as opposed to full-on body sculpting for example) you might think that rhinoplasty seems a little expensive and thus surgery-tourism is considered as a viable alternative. Having a nose-job doesn’t seem as scary as fully invasive body surgery and so many people feel much more comfortable about looking further than the U.K for a good deal; even though there are good prices out there, you still need to be safe. Some prices might well get your senses tingling, but some of the less-reputable companies are more than worth turning your nose up at!

Going abroad for rhinoplasty is certainly a very tempting prospect, if only so you have an excuse to wear some big sunglasses to hide the black eyes which the procedure will leave you with in the days immediately following it.

You are probably considering getting your nose fixed because it’s an unavoidable part of your appearance and it’s something everyone can see.  This is something you may wish to keep in mind when thinking about surgery abroad- what if it goes wrong?  Unsightly scars on your stomach from a botched operation are bad enough but, what if you choose a cheap price over a properly-trained surgeon for rhinoplasty surgery? You can’t hide any facial scars behind clothes and any mistakes may well end up being very costly to correct.

Also, and this concern might seem slightly out of left field but, when considering surgery abroad, you need to ensure that you have thought about every possible upset or mistake which could take place. Nose-jobs often leave patients with black eyes and severe facial swelling for at least a fair few days after the procedure has been performed; these can obviously be covered up with glasses etc but, if you are travelling back through an airport, you will have to remove any coverings in order for your passport picture to be properly checked against your face.

Do you have the confidence to reveal bruising and scars on your face? Or would you rather stay at home and hide away for a couple of weeks until you can reveal your dazzling new look to your friends and family? Also, you will need to protect your face very carefully in the days following surgery which means that prolonged periods of sun-worshipping are probably not advisable. Thus, there is not really any point in choosing a surgical destination just because you like the weather; you probably won’t get much chance to lie out in the sun. This isn’t a holiday, it’s a surgery mission and should always be treated as one. Surely it is better to be a bit pale but happy rather than tanned but feeling like you’ve messed up the surgery you just spent thousands of pounds having.

Speaking of money, it might not even cost you thousands of pounds! There is a real variation in the prices offered around the world and all you really need to do is shop around in order for you to get the best possible price.

Whilst specific costs obviously vary on an individual case to case basis, there are estimates and averages which allow us to get a cross section of what patients are being charged in different countries in different parts of the world. Rhinoplasty surgery in the U.K will likely set you back around £3000 to £3500. If this is too high a price to pay but you don’t want to go too far afield then prices in Western Europe can be a little cheaper, around £2400 in Spain for example. As you move further east across Europe the prices become even cheaper, with the Czech Republic offering prices which average at about £1800.

Even cheaper prices than this can be found in India where you would likely be able to get the procedure performed for less than £1000. When travelling this far away though it is imperative that you’ve used your time to research the company you are going with thoroughly and that you try to sniff out any shady operators who may be trying to shaft you and take your money in return for a substandard amount of care.

Whilst we have MRSA problems in this country, it is also worth considering what the risks of hospital-based infections are when travelling abroad for surgery. You don’t want to go and fix one problem only to be landed with a much bigger one a little further down the line. As is the case with all these surgeries, some companies may not include the price of flights or accommodation in their quotes and this needs to be considered as well.

Whilst rhinoplasty is not one of the most major procedures which you can undergo, it is still important that you have access to pre and post surgery advice in the U.K; you should be able to allay any fears or have any follow up treatments face to face with a doctor in the U.K.

Many companies do offer this but they may only offer the service in one or two major cities in the country; can you afford the time to travel to these appointments when, if you went with a U.K based company, there may be more of an element of local convenience?  Don’t cut your nose off to spite your face, get the best value for money but also the best quality of care which you possibly can, wherever that may be.
