Cosmetic Surgery Abroad Prices / Costs of Cosmetic Surgery Abroad
Cost is the main reason why so many people are now opting to go abroad for their plastic or cosmetic surgery procedures. In these difficult financial times when everyone is having to tighten the purse strings and pinch the pennies, people are being wooed by the idea of having life-changing, career-enhancing surgeries for much less money than they would ever have to pay in the U.K. However, the prices vary from country to country and can often give a good indication of the level of care you can expect to receive when you fly abroad for your surgical metamorphosis.
Obviously the most reliable way to find out how much something is going to cost is, as with anything in life, to go straight to the source. Costs will not only vary from country to country but also from clinic to clinic within the country of your choice and thus the only way you’re going to figure out your cheapest option is to get out the phone, get emailing and dust off your calculator or abacus in order to find out which surgeries make financial sense.
The mantra of: if something looks too good to be true then it probably is has never been more appropriate than it is here. Your health is really invaluable and, by going with a disreputable surgeon in a questionable country to save yourself money, you could well end up doing irrevocable damage to yourself and your body which would be beyond the realm of financial interpretation.
Such horror stories should be heeded but not focussed on and, by simply being armed with prices and information, you can set yourself on the way to getting a brand-new body at an affordable price.
One of the main pitfalls which people fall into when considering surgery abroad is the treacherous area of hidden costs. A surgery might seem cheap on the surface but, when you have factored in everything else, are you going to end up spending more money than you would have if you’d simply stayed at home? Clearly, this is something which we want to avoid at all costs (if you can excuse that pun) and thus take heed of the following areas which may incur hidden costs!
The more reputable, and thus the more expensive, overseas surgical companies will likely offer you a place to stay for a set number of days after the operation and may also, if you are very lucky, include the price of your flight in your quote; however this will most certainly not be the case for a lot of companies. Often-times, the price you get quoted will simply be for the surgery alone and thus there are a plethora of other things you will need to shell out for.
How much will it cost you to fly to your destination and back again? European flights will be fairly cheap but, with surgical tourism growing in places such as Brazil, flights could end up being an expense to compete with the surgery itself. Where you are going to stay before and after the surgery in your country of choice is also something which you need to consider very strongly.
You really need a couple of days to settle into your destination before the traumatic experience of cosmetic surgery and also you will need at least a few days rest after the surgery in order to recover and ensure that you are actually medically fit to fly. Obviously there are cheap hotels but, you should really be looking at somewhere that will offer you quite a high level of comfort as, if you have an invasive procedure, you are likely going to be in a lot of pain.
Even if you are lucky enough to be being put up somewhere by your chosen surgery-provider, they may only be willing to be pay for a few days; you may need to pay for a longer period of rest before you feel able to fly home- especially if that flight is going to be long haul. The usual holidaying considerations of how much money you will need to keep yourself and how many travellers’ cheques you should have in case of emergencies are also important considerations.
So, onto the actual business of costing. Obviously, exact figures can’t be given but here are some numbers just to give you an idea of the types of costs you are likely to encounter when setting off on a voyage into the world of surgical-tourism.
For a rhinoplasty surgery in the U.K, you would likely pay between £3000 and £4000; these costs drop dramatically when you begin to shop around abroad. In Spain the cost would likely be around £2500, in Brazil it would be around £1600, in the Czech Republic around £1800 whilst in India the costs can be as low as £850 (but then, of course, you still have to fly to India as well!) A typical breast augmentation surgery can set you back £3500-£5000 if you undergo one in the U.K- but once more these costs drop when you begin to explore some foreign alternatives.
In Egypt the procedure will cost £2000 (but flights to Egypt can be expensive) whereas, closer to home, you can have the procedure done in Turkey for around £1800 or in Belgium for around £2000-£2800.
As you can see prices are dramatically cheaper but, when you add in air-fares, hotels and living costs, will you really be saving money?
It is very easy to get carried away with the glamorous idea of having surgery abroad. It seems like something that a Hollywood celebrity or A-List pop-star would do; you should always research properly however. Don’t be wowed by impossibly cheap deals and don’t be swayed by the location. You are going in for surgery and thus the quality of healthcare, the surgeon and the hospital matter more than how many hours of sun you might get, what the local bars are like and what the sunset looks like.
