Breast Reduction Abroad

It seems that people are never going to be happy in their search for the right body, nor is anyone ever really going to agree on what that perfect body is. Whilst half the globe seems to be spending money on increasing the size of their breasts, some to staggering and even ridiculous proportions, there is the other half which seems to want to reduce the size of theirs.

Breast reduction surgery is often not only for aesthetic purposes; overly large breasts can be very painful and even, in extreme cases, cause back pain and also be the source of embarrassment for some patients. This is where breast reduction surgery comes in.

There are many different designs which the surgery can take, all involve a scar but a skilled surgeon will sit you down and discuss where the best place would be to place your scar, where it will be least visible or cause you the least trauma. After the swelling from the operation has gone down, the patient is left with a more manageable bust which allows them to do the things they always wished they could but were too encumbered to partake in.  The procedure can also be used to reduce the size of one breast when the breasts are asymmetrical; the same procedure is applied but just one breast rather than two. This latter procedure has helped many women with their self confidence and is one of the main reasons why women choose to go under the knife with this type of procedure.

Cosmetic procedures on the breasts have fast become one of the most popular procedures in the world. We all feel under pressure to look a certain way in these image obsessed times and oftentimes surgery is the only way, or the quickest way, to achieve these goals. However, one thing often stands in the way of us achieving true happiness; money. Surgeries, performed by the top surgeons in the country working for the best companies and hospitals the land has to offer, don’t come cheap and, in these difficult economic times, many people are now looking abroad in the hope that they will find cheaper surgeries which will allow them to return from a holiday with much less excess baggage than they left with.

This is all very well on paper but the reduction of breasts, particularly if one is being reduced to match the size of the other, is a very intricate and complicated procedure which requires the highest level of skill. We’ve already mentioned how a doctor can help place your scar in a place where it should cause minimum disruption and embarrassment; this is something which takes a phenomenally high skill-level to achieve and you really need to consider that, if you go abroad, this is the type of expertise which you might be short-changing yourself out of.

As with breast augmentation and breast lift surgeries, it would be foolish to think that, once you’ve had the surgery in an exotic location that you will be able to don your new beach wear and head down to catch some rays and soak up the beautiful scenery. There will be swelling, a lot of pain, bleeding, scarring and bruising and, all in all, you will probably feel like covering up and hibernating for a few days rather than showing off your body. This is fine as most companies will offer you a place to recover for a couple of days but, after that, you will have to pay for your own accommodation; would you be able to do that in Paris or another European city? Or in Brazil or some other destination around the other side of the world?

Whilst almost everyone who undergoes this procedure feels the mental as well as physical benefit, it is at first a hard thing to come to terms with; to change one’s body so dramatically is always a shock.  Can you cope with such a change whilst you may be a long way away from home and from your support network? How long can you conceivably have off work? If your company of choice offers you post-operation checkups in the U.K then what location will these take place in? If it’s London, and you live in the North of England, how will you cope with the discomforts of driving (seatbelts etc) so soon after having the operation? These may sound like splitting hairs but they are the sort of questions which you need to ask yourself if you are considering going abroad for cosmetic surgery.

So onto the important part, how much money you could hope to save if you went abroad. Well, a typical breast reduction surgery in the U.K could cost anything from £4500-£5000 (each procedure is highly individual and thus so is every price- these are only vague suggestions). If you want to go abroad then there are many different options for saving money.

Cuba, according to research, is the cheapest, but may not offer the highest quality of care which you most certainly need and deserve. More westernised countries, such as France or Belgium, can offer savings of 40% and 45% respectively. For those feeling a bit more adventurous, the growing industry in India can offer huge savings of up to 65%, but whether you would be up to such a long haul flight home fairly soon after surgery is a question which only you know the real answer to.

South Africa can also offer savings of around 50%, but flights there can be very expensive and so it is worth considering how much money you would actually be saving.

Ultimately, your own health is priceless and it’s important that you do your research. If you are choosing to turn away from the wealth of expertise in this country, you need to be sure you’re doing it for the right reasons. It’s not about a tan, it’s about staying safe and healthy and financially secure.
